CWF Newsletter: July, 2014

E-mail sent by Baker Dona, Sunday, July 20th, 2014 @ 12:52pm

As I begin my year as President of Coastal Women’s Forum, I like to reflect on the first    CWF meeting I attended in 2009 as a guest of my sister-in-law, Carol Jordan. At that time, I was still working full time in Northern Virginia, but my husband and I had bought a home here and we would come down as often as possible. On one visit in October of 2009, Carol asked me if I wanted to go with her to a CWF lunch meeting. Everyone was so inviting and friendly and I left lunch making plans to come back and join CWF the next time we were in town. I don’t remember the program that day, or what I ate for lunch, but I do remember meeting a lot of amazing women; Gayle Albertini, Thea Kincaid along with Carol Jordan all sold me on CWF. It was probably just another meeting to them and I’m sure they don’t remember me, or realize the impression they made on me at that one meeting which has brought me full circle to where I am today.

My theme for this year is "Members, Memberships and More" because I believe in the power of our members and the value of a membership to CWF. As members, we have access to women who are powerful, amazing leaders both in the community and in business. We all have stories to tell, ideas to share and smiles that are contagious. As president, I challenge each of you to invite a guest to each meeting as Carol did for me and someday, when one of them is elected as president they will reflect on their first meeting too.

CWF Past president - Kathy Sirpilla's husband, Tony - Obituary

E-mail sent by Jordan-Yates MaryAnn, Thursday, July 10th, 2014 @ 11:42am

CWF Past President (2012-2013) Kathy Sirpilla lost her husband, Tony, on Monday, July 7, after a courageous battle with cancer. I have left a message for Kathy and told her that her CWF sisters were here for her and to let us know if she needed anything or anyone to assist her in any way. Per the family request, I will be collecting monetary donations to be sent as a group in honor of Tony. If you would like to donate contact MaryAnn Jordan Yates - jordanyates719@gmail.com by Friday, July 25.

In Memory of Anthony Sam Sirpilla, February 9, 1945 - July 7, 2014, Anthony S Sirpilla (Tony), age 69, of New Bern, NC, passed away on July 7, 2014, after a two year courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Canton, Ohio on February 9, 1945 to Anthony and Mary (Trace) Sirpilla, graduated from Timken High School and served in the United States Marine Corps. Tony was a devoted and caring husband, loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed boating, fishing, Ohio State football and basketball, but most of all, spending time with his family. His love of woodworking created many wonderful pieces for his family. Tony is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Lewis-Ecrement) Sirpilla; son, Anthony (Amy) Sirpilla; daughters, Anne (John) Crowley, Nikki Miller; son-in-law, Greg Miller; grandchildren, Scott Werner, Jack, Maddy and Lilah Crowley, Jack, Justin and Joey Miller; and his two faithful companions, Chelsea and Lucy. A special thanks to Dr. Michael Meyers and his team at UNC Hospital for their dedication and special care throughout Tony's illness. A private family service will be held at a later date in Canton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the SECU Family House at UNC Hospital, 123 Old Mason Farm Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27517. Please include "In memory of Tony Sirpilla" in the memo line of your check. Arrangements under the direction of Cotten Funeral Home, New Bern, NC.

Our Year Ahead - Let's Get This Party Started !

E-mail sent by Jordan-Yates MaryAnn, Wednesday, July 9th, 2014 @ 12:16pm

Ladies,

I am honored and excited about the year ahead for Coastal Women's Forum. My theme is Members, Membership and More, and to get started I ask each of you to please update your personal profile on the website. To do this, simply sign in and click on the blue box in the right column to "Edit Membership". Please include a photo of yourself in the profile. As you know it is always nice to put a name to a face.

While you're on the website, consider making your annual membership payment of $40.00 safely and quickly by credit card through PayPal, and you can also purchase a name tag, if you don't currently have one.

Mark your calendars for the first Tuesday and third Wednesday of every month because you won't want to miss the fun. Our Lunch and Dinner Program Coordinators have lined up some amazing guest speakers and interactive networking opportunities that envelope our organization's core values; Networking, Education, Encouragement.

I also invite each of you to contibute to our monthly newsletter by sending announcements, articles, promotional events, advertisements, etc... to Dona Baker (masterfuldogtrainer@gmail.com)our Web Master and Newsletter Editor. Please limit yourself to 150 words or less for each submission. Deadline for submission is the 10th of each month and the newsletter will be sent and posted on the 20th of each month.

And in keeping with our theme, we will also include a "Welcome New Members" section with short biography and picture to introduce our new members to the group. Anyone who brings a guest to a meeting will be entered into a drawing for a free gift at the meeting.

Coastal Women's Forum is YOUR group and the Board is here for you, our members. Please don't hesitate to contact me or any member of the BOD with any suggestions, comments or concerns that you have throughout the year.

I look forward to seeing you on August 5th at 5:30 p.m.at the Chelsea for our first event.

Let the party begin!

It is with deep sadness that I inform you about the sudden death of Tony Sirpilla. As most of you know, Tony has been sick for the past several years and Kathy has always been right there by his side. Kathy is with family right now and I don't have any further information to pass along but will keep you updated with arrangements as they are made available. Please keep this loving family in your thoughts and prayers.

Updated - Dues Notice for 2014-2015

E-mail sent by Roberts Tanya, Tuesday, July 1st, 2014 @ 11:18am

The Coastal Women's Forum year runs from July 1st to June 30th. To better keep track of our membership, we will no longer apply memberships paid in April, May or June  to the new year (July to June). Therefore, we are informing all members that annual dues are to be paid beginning in July through September for the following year.

Any dues not paid by the October dinner meeting will mean that you are a CWF guest and will need to pay the guest rates for the two meetings guests are allowed to attend. Of course, we hope that you will all re-join and bring along a new member!

Visit our website here to make your payment of just $40 for the whole year!

Please let MaryAnn know if you have any questions. Thank you!

CWF June, 2014 Newsletter

E-mail sent by Baker Dona, Monday, June 2nd, 2014 @ 10:01pm

Spring has sprung and summer thoughts are in our system. As you make your annual adventures, don’t overlook this time to continue to network and engage others to benefit you and your usiness or interests. Many people will take a holiday from school, work, routines, and yes, CWF will also take some time “off” this summer.

Strategically plan how you will maintain your momentum and how you will ensure that your business remains viable during the “down time of summer”. To do this, you must have some sense of time management and even some sense of organization, whether you thought of it that way or not. Plan ahead to move forward! As Benjamin Franklin best said: If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.

CWF’s plan is to have our Annual Hat Social and year-end business meeting at the June dinner meeting. This will introduce our membership to the new Board of Directors and, thus, begin our looking forward to a new year. Plan now to come out to The Emerald for the only meeting we will have in June (no lunch meeting in June), and our last meeting for this CWF year. Our “new” year will begin July 1st with the first meeting in August.
