Guest Speaker: Maureen Loomer, Trent Woods Garden Club
Getting Ready for Spring?
Have you imagined the possibilities of a beautiful garden but don’t know where to begin? Or have you tried to grow plants that worked well in your previous home but couldn’t thrive in coastal Carolina backyards? If so, Maureen Loomer from the Trent Woods Garden Club will join us at our February meeting to guide us in creating a beautiful Eastern North Carolina garden!
February is a great time to get started on our gardening projects. Maureen will share some step-by-step advice on how to assess, plan and create gardens that work in our region. With a Master’s Degree in cellular biology and Ph.D. in higher education, Maureen brings the insight and expertise we can all use – whether we are timid beginners or tried and true garden enthusiasts.
Originally from Southern California, Maureen relocated to North Carolina in 1980. Her background includes work in medical technology, clinical research and teaching undergraduate biology. She has served on two Earthwatch field science research teams. Maureen has been an active member of the Trent Woods Garden Club since she retired. In addition to her love for horticulture (especially native plants) and gardening, Maureen’s interests include citizen science, long-distance running and reading.
